The FDA issues new warning about statins
  
I'm not a huge fan of statins, at least in part because it's a scientifically proven fact that the vast majority of people who take them will not benefit. And they have potential adverse effects too, of course. This week, the Food and Drug Administration in the US issued new warnings concerning statins that would cause us to further doubt the appropriateness of these drugs for most people. A cautionary tale about screening for 'weight issues' in children
 
This week, a mother brought her 12-year-old daughter to see me. The visit was instigated by a letter she'd had from her school informing her that the girl was overweight and might be putting her health at risk as a result. This incident reminded me of the nonsense of how weight is traditionally assessed, and why not using scales, but our eyes, is often a much better judge of someone's size.
