Just How Effective Are Blood Pressure Medications - Dr Briffa's e-newsletter - 8th June 2012

Dear Kelley

Just how effective are blood pressure medications?

Despite the fact that statins are promoted as wonder-drugs by some doctors and scientists, the fact remains they do nothing for the vast majority of people who take them. This week it occurred to me to see if blood pressure medications fair any better (they don't). For more on this, click this link.

Magnesium for migraine?

Migraine headaches can be very incapacitating, but fortunately natural approaches can be very effective for reducing the frequency or severity of attacks. In one of my blog posts this week I write about the use of the mineral magnesium for migraines, and refer to a recent publication in which the case is made that this nutrient should be given to all migraine sufferers. High intensity exercise helps runners run faster

In recent times I've become interested in 'high intensity intermittent exercise'. This form of exercise seems to bring health benefits that go beyond regular exercise, and requires shorter session times too. One of my blogs this weeks focuses on a recent study which found that a form of HIIE was effective in significantly bringing down the running times in runners compared with usual training. To your good health!
