Low Iron Levels A Common But Often Missed Cause of Fatigue in Women - Dr Briffa's e-newsletter - 13th July 2012

Dear Kelley

Low iron levels is a common cause of fatigue in women, and why this is so often missed

A recent study has found that supplementation in women substantially reduced fatigue despite many of the women having 'normal' iron levels. In one of my blog posts this week I write about this research, as well two fundamental reasons why low iron is so often missed by doctors. For more on this, click this link.

Drug company survey suggests statin side effects are much more common that 'official statistics' suggest

Statin side effects such as fatigue, liver and kidney damage are well known, but are (not surprisingly) generally downplayed by the pharmaceutical industry. In one of my blogs this week I write about an industry-sponsored survey which strongly suggests that statin side effects are much more common than some would have us believe. Organisation in the US promotes increased involvement of patients in the decision making process (and I'm delighted)

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a blog post about two friends of mine who had had their reasonable ideas regarding their symptoms utterly rejected by their doctors. This week saw the publication of a study which assessed the attitudes of patients to the decision making process. This research was funded by an organisation which seeks to promote the idea that health decisions are generally best shared between a doctor and a patient. For more on this, and why I give this organisation my full support, click this link.

To your good health!
