Why You May Need to Ignore What Your Doctor Thinks About Your Weight - Dr Briffa's e-newsletter - 4th January 2013

Dear Kelley

First of all, Happy New Year to you!

My blog kicks of this year with the following items...

Why you perhaps need to ignore what your doctor thinks about your weight

Most health professionals and governments judge weight according to the body mass index (BMI). However, a massive, brand new study casts considerable doubt on the appropriateness of the traditional BMI parameters used to judge health. For more on this, and what is more important, click this link.

Could statins be contributing to the epidemic of heart failure

Cholesterol-reducing drugs known as statins can deplete the body of the substance CoenzymeQ10 which is essential for energy production in the body. Increasing recognition of this fact is leading some researchers to highlight the potential role of statins in symptoms and conditions such as muscle fatigue and 'heart failure'. For more on this, and what to do about it, click this link.

My interview with Jimmy Moore

Low-carb advocate Jimmy Moore recently had me back on his podcast as part of this 'encore week'. Jimmy asked his guests to vote for which previous guest they would like to see back on his show and, flatteringly, I made the top 5. In our interview we discuss patient empowerment and some little things that can make a big difference to health and wellbeing. To access the interview, click this link.

To your good health!
