Simply Angie This week, my thoughts have been circling back again and again to Psalm 23. It’s one of those passages that many of us know by heart—but its comfort seems to grow deeper the more life we walk through. Psalm 23 I’ve been meditating on verse 4 this week as I, and so many I love, are going through some very challenging valleys.
There’s no way around it—every one of us will walk through valleys. Some are personal. Some are global. And some feel like both. In recent days, I’ve been praying for friends and loved ones who are facing hard battles—cancer diagnoses, family turmoil, heartbreaking losses—and I’ve felt the weight of that shadow. But here’s the part that’s been stirring in my soul: we walk through the valley. We don’t stay there. And we don’t walk alone. David didn’t write, “if” I walk through the valley. He wrote, “Yea, though I walk...” It’s a given. Valleys are a part of life in this world. But fear doesn't have to be.
Fear is one of the strongest emotions we face. It can be paralyzing. It steals our peace, clouds our thinking, and often leads us to act out of desperation instead of faith. But in this psalm, God gently reminds us that even when we’re surrounded by dark or disturbing shadows, we don’t have to live in fear—because He is with us. As believers, we have a Shepherd who walks every step beside us. We don’t face the unknown alone. We don’t have to figure it out or be strong enough on our own. He is Our Strength. He is Our Protector. Just like a child feels safe walking through the dark with their father’s hand in theirs, we can face even the valley of the shadow of death with peace and courage—because our Shepherd is with us. And not just with us—but guiding, defending, comforting, and restoring us. So if you’re in a valley right now, or someone you love is, let this be your gentle reminder: He is enough. And He’s not going anywhere. With love and grace, P.S. If this touched a tender spot in your heart, or if you know someone who’s walking through a valley right now, feel free to share this with them. Or leave a comment below—I'd love to hear how the Shepherd is comforting you in this season. Talk to you again soon. Can’t wait? |
