It has been a long, heavy week. I’ll be honest with you—I’m tired. Between the busyness of life and the sobering news of new wars and unrest filling our screens, it’s easy for the heart to feel a bit crowded by shadows. But this week, my “antidote” came from an unlikely place: a primary school classroom. This term, I’ve been teaching my religious education students about the days of Creation. Week by week, we’ve watched the world take shape. We’ve talked about how God didn’t just “bang” things into existence by accident; He spoke with design and purpose. Design in the DetailsWe looked at how God divided the waters to create the firmament—perfectly balancing the gases in our atmosphere so that life could eventually breathe. We talked about seeds reproducing “after their own kind” and the sun, moon, and stars acting as our GPS and a celestial clock for our tides, seasons, days, months, and years. We saw how God spoke into existence all the fish, fowl, and land animals, and how they continue to follow God’s command to only and always reproduce after their own kind. As I teach these children, my own faith is reinforced. The world tries to tell us that everything evolved out of chaos, but in every aspect of life, we see that chaos never creates order. Only a Designer creates a masterpiece. Nothing was random. Nothing was accidental. The crowning moment, of course, was the creation of man and woman. Everything else in creation was spoken into existence. But when God made man, the Bible tells us something different happened. God got His hands dirty. He formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of life. It was God’s own breath that made man a living soul! We were created in the image of God. I told the children: “You are not animals. You were specifically designed by God to be uniquely like Him. You were made intentionally for fellowship with Him—designed with His desire for you to live with Him forever.” When the “Very Good” Meets the “Very Hard”It’s a beautiful picture, isn’t it? Genesis tells us that when God finished, He saw that it was very good. But as we look at the world today, we know it doesn’t always feel “very good.” Violence, war, suffering, and confusion seem to surround us on every side. It can feel discouraging to watch. Next week, I’ll be teaching the children about the Fall—how disobedience brought a curse into this beautiful design. That is why we see the heartbreak, the wars, and the weariness we feel today. Yet, even in the sadness of current events, I find a strange kind of peace. Why? Because the same Bible that accurately described the perfect beginning also accurately predicted the difficult “winding down.” A Quick Thought on our RoleWhile it is true that these events align with biblical prophecy, I’ve noticed a growing trend of people wanting to “help” usher in these difficult times. However, I don’t find anywhere in Scripture where God asks us to manufacture the chaos. He simply tells us to watch and be ready. Our job isn’t to fuel the fire of a shaking world; our job is to be the light in it—sharing the Gospel and living in a way that glorifies Him until He returns in His own perfect time. I have a lot more to say on this, and I look forward to sharing a deeper look at our biblical “job description” in these times with you next week. The Word That Doesn’t ChangeThere is a verse we’ve been memorizing in class that has stayed with me through this long week:
The truth of God’s Word isn’t just a “blind belief.” I see the evidence of it everywhere. I see it in the precision of the stars, and I see it in the fulfillment of His warnings about the days we are living in. If God was big enough to design the oxygen we breathe and the orbits of the planets, He is big enough to handle the chaos of 2026. His Word was true in Genesis, it is true in the Psalms, and it is true tonight while I sit at my desk, tired but hopeful. A Quiet EncouragementIf you are feeling disheartened by the world or just plain weary from your own “long week,” I encourage you to look up. The stars are still in their assigned places. The sun still rose this morning. The Designer hasn’t abandoned His masterpiece. His Will will be done in the end, and His Word—the foundation of forever—isn’t going anywhere. Blessings, P.S. When the world feels uncertain, it’s a comfort to remember that neither His design nor His truth has changed since the beginning. Take a moment tomorrow to just look at a leaf, a bird, or the sky.
