The Easiest Way to Slash Breast Cancer Risk

A new study confirms what we've been telling you for years: Eating starchy carbs seriously endangers your health.

The latest research is from the University of California (UC). It indicates that carbs don't just make you fat, they significantly increase your risk of breast cancer. The findings were just released at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

"The results show that it's not just overall carbohydrates," says lead study author Jennifer Emond, "but particularly starch."

There's a second study you need to know about, too. This one revealed that one specific fruit can kill breast cancer cells...and leave healthy ones intact.

But first...

The Case Against Carbs

The UC study involved 2,651 women for a period of seven years. All of the women had previously had breast cancer. The purpose of the study was to see if certain foods increased their risk of recurrence.

It was simple enough: The women kept detailed logs of what they were eating. And at the end of the seven years, those who ate the fewest carbs had the lowest incidence of recurring cancer.

Then, when the researchers took a closer look at the logs, they were able to be more specific. Women who decreased their intake of carbs high in starches decreased their rate of breast cancer recurrence by 9.7 percent. And those who increased their starches increased their rate of recurrence by 14.2 percent.

And this isn't the only recent study linking starchy carbs to breast cancer.

A study published about a year ago in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that women who ate fewer processed carbs were at a lower risk of breast cancer. Those results were confirmed by British scientists. They found that cutting carbs to just twice a week controls levels of a known cancer-promoting hormone.

Now, let's talk about...

The Fruit That Combats Cancer

To lower your risk of breast cancer, you need to reduce your carb intake. That means limiting your intake of cereals, bread, pasta, and starchy root vegetables. It might surprise you to know that it also means staying away from some fruits that are high in sugar. For example, bananas are high-carb fruits you can stay away from.

Instead, you should be choosing berries, peaches, nectarines...and especially plums.

Why plums? Because of a new study – also presented at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

The study is from Dr. Luis Cisneros-Zevallo who heads research at Texas A&M University. He worked with two different types of breast cancer, treating the cancer cells with a plum extract. Not only did the extract kill even the most aggressive form of breast cancer cells, it did it without harming the normal cells.

Dr. Cisneros-Zevallo used an extract of the "Black Splendor" plum. He says that he used that particular plum because it is known to contain chlorogenic compounds with strong antioxidant and anti-cancer effects.

So to fight cancer the natural way, pass on the starchy carbs...and load up on Black Splendor plums.
